Although the Bradford Canal is no longer navigable, much of its route can still be explored on foot.
Planning a walk
A typical walk might begin near Shipley and follow the approximate line of the canal towards Bradford.
Walking the route is one of the best ways to understand how the canal shaped the surrounding landscape.
What to look for
As you walk, look out for:
- unusual road alignments
- changes in elevation
- bridges and crossings
- older industrial buildings
Linking with other routes
The route connects naturally with the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, offering longer and more scenic walks.
Respecting the area
Parts of the route pass through residential or private land, so always follow public rights of way and respect local communities.
